Château Fontenil
After taking over the family properties (The Good Shepherd, Roland Maillet and Bertineau) in 1979 and began to develop their consulting business that made them world famous Michel and Dany Rolland in 1986 are the acquisition of vineyards in the municipality of Saillans in the heart of the Fronsac appellation.
This appellation, whose fame has over the centuries erased the benefit of St Emilion and Pomerol, in fact offers excellent opportunities. The complete renovation of facilities engaged and ends in late 1990. The estate has since modern facilities and suitable for quality production: double sorting table, small tanks thermo wood and stainless steel barrel cellar . Located on the slopes of a south-facing hillside overlooking Libourne and the beautiful valley of Isle, the vineyard of 9 ha extends on clay-limestone soils of the sandstone Fronsardais. The grape varieties are planted with Merlot (90%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%).
The average age of the vines is more than 40 years. Particular attention is given to cultivation methods to bring the best quality grapes to maturity and respect for the environment (green harvesting, pest management ...).
