Château Ormes de Pez

The castle of Pez Ormes is located in northern appellationSaint-Estèphe, near the hamlet of Pez. This area belongs to the vineyard landscape of Médoc since the 18th century. In 1940, Jean-Charles Cazes becomes the purchaser along with the Château Lynch-Bages, a Pauillac Fifth Growth in. Since then, the 35 hectares of the castle are in the Cazes family that has worked so well that the first wine of Ormes de Pez is now a Cru Bourgeois denomination that has evolved to become a very demanding quality label, that is awarded to a wine and not a domain.

The terroir is typical of the Médoc, with serious clayey sand. The grape varieties is divided between 4 Bordeaux varieties - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot in order of importance - with vines planted in high density 9000 vines / ha, for a yield of 40 hl / ha.

In the vineyard as in the winery, the same philosophy that Lynch-Bages prevails, because it is the same team that plies here, a team that believes that wine is a lifestyle as much as a drink. Note also the presence of quality guest rooms in this beautiful monastery of the 18th century.
