Château Duhart Milon
Originally, at the beginning of the 18th century, the vines of Milon served the second wine of Château Lafite, which is in itself a proof of quality. Several successions, including those of the widow Duhart - her husband would have been a corsair in the pay of Louis XV - carried the vineyard to nearly 50 hectares in 1855, year of its classification to the rank of 4th Cru. In 1962, the Rothschild family bought the estate due to inheritance problems and undertook major works - drainage, uprooting, reparcelling, modernization of the installations ...
- leading to a vineyard of 72 hectares in 2001.The vines are on a fine gravel soil mixed with aeolian sands on a limestone substrate. They are similar to that of the prestigious Premier Cru Lafite-Rothschild and are maintained by the same teams, with Christophe Congé, oenologist and winemaker, and Régis Porfilet, responsible for vineyards. Among their choices are low yields, manual work throughout the year, vinification of parcels and aging in oak barrels new in half. Critics hail the revival of Duhart-Milon, for a good ten years.
