Vieux Château Certan
The estate of Vieux Château Certan is mentioned by the engineer-geographer Belleyme on his famous map of 1785. Already, the vines occupied a superb gunzian grave terrace one kilometer south-east of Pomerol, in the most qualitative part of The appellation. Today and for more than a century, the place is owned by the Thienpont family, renowned throughout Bordeaux, with Alexandre Thienpont in charge at the moment.
The 14 hectares of vines - 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon - are managed according to the principles of reasoned fighting to preserve the environment as much as the grandeur of this prestigious terroir.
At the cellar, the gestures follow a logic summarized by Alexandre Thienpont: from the initial fermentation to the bottling, I wish wine to be self-fulfilled, without yeast or exogenous products. In other words, the wine must tell its own story, not ours. Given the international reputation of the place, one can think that these stories are interesting.
