Château Smith Haut-Lafitte

In 1365, the noble house of Bosq begins the adventure of wine in giving birth to the vineyard. In the 18th century, the Scottish George Smith bought the estate, places side by side his name, built the monastery and exports wine to England, contributing to its reputation. The 1959 ranking for the Graves wine reinforces that reputation by classifying the red Grand Cru. There remains the issue of classification of white wines but it is not just about this area and stimulates debate of experts and connoisseurs.

Since 1990, the owner is Daniel Cathiards who fell under the spell of places and wines produced there. The vineyards now cover 67 hectares in red and 11 white, with the main Bordeaux varietals: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Sauvignon and Semillon.

On the website of the castle, you can see the recent timing of purchases of heavy equipment for winemaking, constant concern of illustration that inhabits Cathiards to express the best of their grapes and their terroirs. Given the reputation and quality of the wines of the estate, it is reasonable to believe that they succeeded.
