Château Canon
With returns of its missions on behalf of Louis XV, Jacques Kanon, pirate king, acquired in 1760 the area of Saint Martin. He built a house, and rare for the time, develops the culture of the vine. His successor, Raymond FONTÉMOING continues its work and gives its name to Château Canon.
The Fournier family took the castle in 1919 and will sell to the Chanel house in 1996. Located on a limestone terrace for ¾ of its area (22 hectares), the South / southwest-facing website culminates at 87 meters, one quarter vineyards down the hillside towards the valley of the Dordogne. The vineyard is fenced effectively protecting the vines against late frosts.
The soil, very homogeneous, is made of clay and limestone soils ideally suited to both grape varieties present, the majority with 75% Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Applied reasoned plot management at the Château Canon allows to harvest when the grapes are mature and easy batch traceability and respect for the environment.
