Clos Fourtet
Located at the gates of the medieval city on underground quarries, the Clos Fourtet owes its name to the "Camp Fourtet", a fortified place that served to protect Saint-Emilion in the Middle Ages. Made famous by its owners the lords of Figeac in the 18th century, the closed domain of walls includes a vineyard of 18.7 hectares in one piece and a residence built during the Ancien Regime.Bought in 2001 by Philippe Cuvelier from the Lurton family, Clos Fourtet has a naturally drained soil made of clayey-limestone soil with a low arable layer. The vines are made up of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. The vines, which have an average age of 25 years, are worked in a traditional and reasoned way: use of organic fertilizers and minerals, disbudding, protection of clusters and vines against diseases, dust mites or mushrooms, Harvest in green to optimize concentration.
