Château La Conseillante
The history of La Conseillante, one of the most famous wines of Pomerol after Petrus begins in the eighteenth century. Catherine Conseillan, metals market in Libourne, is a vineyard of 12 hectares between 1735 and 1776 and built the castle we know today. It gives its name to the area in 1754. After several changes of owners, the estate was bought in 1871 by Louis Nicolas. It will then remain to this day and in the Nicolas family.
In the 1970s, Bernard Francis and Nicolas renovating the winery and introduce stainless steel tanks on the advice of the legendary professor and enologist Emile Peynaud. Since 2010, this is Bertrand, Jean-Nicolas Henri and Valmy that after 5 generations, manages the family property. It is headed since 2004 by Jean-Michel Laporte, agricultural engineer.
Beautifully situated between Petrus and Cheval Blanc vineyard of 12 hectares, on clayey gravelly soil with basement of iron slag, is planted with Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%). The age of the vines is 40 years. With a structure of the vineyard unchanged since 1871, Conseillante was able to maintain a high quality consistency over the centuries.
Since 2007, The Conseillante produces a second wine named "Duo Conseillante".
